Women’s Health & Fertility (cisgender)

Starting early in a woman’s life with issues such as irregular cycles, painful periods, and PMS; all the way to a mature woman’s transition through menopause Acupuncture and Chinese Herbal Medicine  offer an alternative to pills, procedures, or just putting up with negative symptoms. It’s natural medicine that creates a fundamental change in your being.

Some specific gynecological issues that Chinese Medicine (Acupuncture and Herbal Medicine) can address are:

  • Painful Periods (Dysmenorrhea)
  • Irregular Periods
  • Endometriosis
  • Lack of Period (Amenorrhea)
  • Anovulation
  • Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS)
  • Premenstrual Symptoms (PMS)
  • Fertility
  • Prenatal and Postpartum phases

Men’s Health (cisgender)

Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine has so much to offer when it comes to Men’s Health issues – so why aren’t we seeing more male patients in our clinic? We live in a culture where many men feel ashamed or weak for focusing on their own health. The dominant view is that men should just “tough it out.” We hope to create a space where men can be open and honest about their concerns. We offer treatment for a wide array of andrological conditions:

  • Erectile Dysfunction
  • Prostatitis
  • Male Factor Infertility
  • Spermatorrhea
  • Painful Urination
  • Low Libido / Excessive Libido

LGBT+, Queer and Transgender Health

We’re working hard to make Meridian Health Centre an inclusive space to everyone regardless of sexual orientation, or gender identity. Creating inclusive intake forms is one of the first steps we’ve taken in ensuring that all our patients feel welcome.

“We understand that the LGBT+ population has unique healthcare needs and concerns”

Meridian Health understands that the LGBT+ population has unique healthcare needs/concerns that are often left ignored or unacknowledged. Jon McDonell, one of our Registered Acupuncturists, hopes to change that. He has taken a special interest in Queer/Trans health and strives to offer respectful, barrier free access to treatment. Some LGBT+ specific issues that Acupuncture/TCM can address are:

  • Prepping the body for Hormone Therapy
  • Dealing with side effects of Hormone Therapy
  • Speeding up post-surgical healing times for those that choose to have gender-affirming surgeries.
  • Targeting Mental Health issues which disproportionately affect the LGBT+ community
  • Improving circulation and decreasing pain due to things like Chest Binding

Stress, PTSD and Mental Health

One of the lesser known conditions that Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine can address are Stress and Mental Health issues. As a holistic system of medicine – every patient’s mental, emotional and spiritual health are taken into account alongside any physical complaints they may have. The stress response can have far reaching effects on multiple systems in your body, such as: immune, endocrine, digestive, and nervous systems.

Acupuncture  and Herbal Medicine can be quite effective in treating:

  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • PTSD / Trauma
  • Insomnia/Sleep Disturbances
  • Loss of Memory
  • Lack of Focus
  • Decreased Motivation

Pain & Strain

There is a reason that many people associate Acupuncture and Massage Therapy with musculoskeletal injuries. It’s one of the most common things we treat, and one of the areas that we get the best results. Acupuncture and Massage are appropriate modalities for the treatment of both acute and chronic injuries. You can expect a decrease in inflammation, increased range of motion, decreased pain/soreness, muscle relaxation etc.

The following is a list of some of the common injuries/ailments we see here in the clinic:

  • Joint Sprains/Strains
  • Tendonitis
  • Back Pain
  • Neck and Shoulder Pain
  • Whiplash due to Car Accidents
  • Plantar Fasciitis
  • Sciatica
  • TMJ
  • Carpal Tunnel

General Health Concerns

Physiological events such as the stress response can have far reaching effects on multiple systems in your body, such as: immune, endocrine, digestive, and nervous system. In the view of acupuncture and Chinese Medicine, the mind, emotions, and organ systems all affect one another, providing a unique and powerful holistic context to address psycho-emotional health.
